How’s your life going? Are you feeling like a crab in a basket?
Have you ever watched crabs in a basket? There they are just piled on top of one another. Some just lay there doing absolutely nothing. They just submit to their capture. Some move around aimlessly with no particular purpose to their movement. Just busy, busy, busy accomplishing absolutely nothing. Some will fight and challenge each other while exhibiting heightened emotions. What could they possibly be fighting about? They can’t really hurt each other, both having extremely hardened shells. They just bulk up against each other like their saying, “Keep your distance! I’m afraid of you because I’m stuck in the same bucket with you. I don’t know what else to do so I’ll just entertain myself with trying to intimidate and snap at you.” These crabs are soaked in fear and take it out on the others. Some crabs will try to climb out of the basket. They want Freedom. Some crabs will grab ahold of the ones trying to escape and actually pull them back into the basket. These crabs can’t escape themselves and they actually hold back the crabs that are motivated to escape to Freedom. Some crabs will elude the ones trying to stop them and actually escape the basket. Fuck resistance. These crabs are Freedom Lovers. There might be one that will actually sacrifice and detach a limb to escape the grip of the crab trying to keep him/her down in the basket. Good thing crabs can heal and regrow the limb. *Humans can heal the same way. We may not sacrifice a limb or be able to regrow one, but we can heal and regrow parts of ourselves that we have lost along the way towards Freedom. Some crabs will escape the basket, but then lay next to the basket only to get picked back up and placed back in the basket. Sorry crab, you should have run farther away. Again, fear, resistance, regret, and self-doubt kept this crab from moving away from the prison. Some crabs will sacrifice a limb, escape the basket, and run like hell towards freedom. They will usually make it back to the water avoiding recapture. I have a question… Why don’t they all work together to try to escape to freedom? Which crab are you right now? Which crab do you want to be? Might you be feeling stuck in the basket of your life? Trapped? There’s a way out of the basket. But of course we all have people, problems, “responsibilities”, and otherwise perceived blockades that stop us, fight us, or hold us back from escaping to a different, yes, but a liberated, natural world. Could you be the crab that actually sacrifices for their own escape to freedom? Do you know what waits at the end of every crab’s journey whether they are in the basket or not? Death. The difference is the time between the current moment of capture (the right now!) and the time of death. The difference is life. The ones fighting each other aimlessly will die. So will the ones that lay there doing nothing. Why don’t they at least try? The ones holding the other ones back are definitely not going to make it long. Even the ones that escape, run like hell back to the water, and live out the rest of their lives in the open ocean will eventually die. The difference is life. The difference is the appreciation and gratitude for living. Are you a crab in a basket? Which one are you? I’ve got a new one for you. If I may, I’ll create another example of the crab in the basket. I want this crab to be the game changer. I want to be the crab that fights like hell to get out of the basket. I want to be the one that sacrifices “limbs”, if necessary, to escape. I will be the crab that runs like hell towards the freedom of the open ocean. However, I want to be the crab that turns around to see if anyone else would actually like help out of the basket. Crabs won’t do that. They are very mechanical in their existence. They would even consider turning around to consider the others that are stuck. But I would. I will not risk my escape. I will not risk the ensnarement of other envious crabs. I will take a moment to turn around and offer a hand up to the others with that, “Please, help me,” look in their eyes. I’m the crab that says, “You are not alone. You’re not stuck, but you better want it too because I’m out of here!” Remember, the ones that make it out of the basket stop at nothing to escape to freedom. No fear. They don’t tarry. They don’t procrastinate. They don’t give in to resistance and stay close to the basket (the prison that represents living an unfulfilled life). They don’t go a thousand different directions before actually moving back towards the water. It’s a straight-line, all-out run for their life back to the arms of freedom, Mother Ocean. Which crab are you right now? What crab do you want to be? You are not alone.
